WTF is wrong with my macbook!?

Ok, so I kep trying to change the energy saver options but everytime I try it freezes and I can’t change the settings or close the window. Why does this take place and what can I do? Someone said to close apps when I do it but not anything is open when I try it. And they also said to update it, and so I did, but it stil didn’t do anything. It’s getting on my nerves… I’ve tried like 1,000 times to change it!!

reinstall your mac OS with the logic discs you get with the mac, everyone gets it and theres no cd-key that goes with it. just slot in disc 1 into your mac and press full install with the programs that come with mac, you must be excellent as gold.
Install Windows
turn it off and remove the battery and make sure you are plugged in. Restart without the battery and have at it.
Turn it off, place the battery back in and you must be excellent to go.
If not, start up from your install disk and run disk utility. All the directions are in the help menu under disk utility.

Erase and Install is a very last alternative, try an Archive and Install after running troubleshooting.
