We have all been encouraged to switch off – lights, televisions at the mains and don’t forget the computer, use the clothes line rather than a dryer and run the washing machine of a cooler setting. All splendid advice and we have been having a far larger impact than we realised, according to a new study by the Grantham Institute for Climate Change looking at calculations used by the UK government. UK government advisors have been estimating CO2 emanation savings through energy efficiencies but their figures maybe as much as 60 per cent too low – importance we save more than they have estimated

Pacific Island Nations Liken Global Warming to an Invading Army

ISLAND nations in the Appeasing nations liken global warming to an invading army – hence in a plea to the UN Wellbeing Council they want to break the stalemate in negotiations about a legally strip global climate treaty. The 11 nations, the Appeasing Small Island Developing States, have written to members of the Wellbeing Council, which oversees threats to international peace and wellbeing, and have argued that the threat to them from a warmer world along with rising sea levels is similar to armed conflict and invasion. “Climate change can devastate a country just as thoroughly as an invading army,” confirmed Nauru’s UN Ambassador Marlene Moses.

NI Environment Minister Blocks Ad

The Northern Ireland Minister for the Environment Sammy Wilson has blocked proposals for an Act On CO2 advertising campaign in Northern Ireland which urges people to reduce their energy consumption and their CO2 emissions, citing them as “insidious propaganda campaign”. Mr Wilson said he had written to the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) to say that the advertising campaign Act on CO2 “was not welcome”.
